Briefings on 2008 China Satellite Conference

The tenth China Satellite Conference, ratified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and sponsored by China Institute of Communication, was held at Beijing New Century Hotel from October 21 to 23, 2008.

Government officials from the MIIT, the National Development and Reform Commission, China National Space Administration, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, and the Radio Administration of MIIT delivered keynote speeches on the development of satellite applications in China. More than 500 delegates from academia and industry were present at the conference.

A seminar was convened addressing the satellite technology in the afternoon of October 21.  A total of six experts in the filed of satellite applications gave remarkable presentations to an audience of 140 delegates.  In addition, representatives from 15 companies and international organizations, together with 14 specialists, gave keynote speeches at the conference.  Based on a total of 36 papers submitted to the conference, a conference paper collection was compiled and printed. The conference was closed in the afternoon of October 23 following a special session titled ‘the past decade and the future – the development path of China’s satellite applications’.

Meanwhile, the International Satellite Technology & Technology Expo 2009 was held covering a floor area of 1,000 square meters.  A total of 44 companies from home and abroad participated the expo including ViaSat, Hughes, APT, China Traffic Communication Centre, Comtech EF Data, iDirect Asia Pte Ltd, Gilat Satellite Network, ND Satcom, Newtec Diamond Satellite Communications (HK), Beijing Uniat Technology, LinkWell Communications, and Spectrum Communications Systems.

The conference was broadcasted live via SinoSat-1 to eight sub venues across China including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Harbin and Urumqi.  More than 8,000 fans received the satellite-transmitted information and they gave very positive feedback on the visual effects and the receiving facilities.
