Mr Daniel Enns, Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing & Business Development of Comtech E.F. Data

The Broadcast and Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSGN) market is faced with a number of challenges relating to communications systems. Critical communication requirements include: Utilizing sitcom for the transmission of streaming, datacast, Voice over IP (VoIP) and MPEG applications. Requiring on-demand bandwidth capacity for mobile and remote satellite uplinks; Needing to maximize bandwidth and minimize operating expenses; Transmitting HDTV over SDTV network capacity using new DVB-S2 solution. This discussion will focus on satellite technologies and solutions tailored to meet the needs of broadcast and DSGN installations – from automated network and capacity management to forward error correction methods that enable satellite transponder efficiencies. Optimizing satellite communications by using new modulation and forward error techniques, such as the emerging DVB-S2, reducing operating expenses and ensuring satellite uplink capacity are benefits that can be realized with these technologies and solutions.
