Csat2001 was held on September 18th-20th, 2001 in Beijing New Century Hotel, following the success o f CSat 1999 and 2000, CSat has become the most significant and inferential event with abundant information in the satellite industry in China.

    Csat2001 as the third conference of this kind, achieved the great success and favorable comments from the participants in spite of the various difficulties caused by international situation. Among the 500 attendees of the year, there were representatives from international organization, foreigner companies, and 23 exhibitors from home and abroad. As the Gold Sponsor, New Skies Satellite, Holland participated in the exhibition for the first time. Its presentation and the presentations of Gilat, Shin of Thailand and other companies were warmly welcomed and applauded by the participants.

    The leading members from Ministry of Information Industry, China National Space Administration, State Administration of Radio, film & Television, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of China Science & Technology, including Lu Qin Jian, Liu Cai, Sun Lai Yan gave speeches. In addition, the representative from State Administration of Radio, Film & Television policy & regulation division presided over the meeting concerning direct broadcasting satellite. The chairman of the conference Mr. Yang Qian Li invited elite in satellite field to the discussion on the prospects of the industry development.

   International well-known were invited to make reports on situations of international satellite market: The progress of individualization of Intelsat of the year and the benefits it brought for the global users, especially Chinese users; the wide spread application of VSAT system under the support of Indian government; and the development situation of Asian satellite market introduced by Asian Pacific Satellite Communication Council. Hughes Network System reported how the recreational and service business DIRECTTV and information service business DIRECTWAY competed and co-existed. And the world leading IPSTAR broadband satellite system of Thailand satellite company was about to introduced to China market by China Railcom(CRC).

    All these widely concerned topics brought the highlight of international satellite market to the Chinese people of the satellite industry.

    The speeches made by Chinese experts were as well interesting. The widely concerned re-organization of China satellite operators and its influence in China satellite industry, the rising of China private satellite service business, the role of satellite application in China west region, the development of satellite remote education-the success and failure of one year application of educational satellite network, the way of China satellite broadcasting--- how broadcast satellite becoming a new increase. All these speeches indicated the new trend and development of China satellite industry.

    The round table discussion of the elite of satellite industry, as highlight of the conference was hosted by Chairman Yang Qian Li. The focused topic of the industry "Where is China satellite to go" was deeply discussed in regard to its operation, manufacture, service and policy influence, etc. constructive opinions and suggestions were made on obstacles, challenges and opportunities of the industry.

    CSat2001 received great attention from media in the field; more than 20 of them including CCTV, BTV and other telecommunication, broadcasting & television, and mass media, attended the press conferences and workshops. The People' Post, Beijing Evening, and other newspapers reported this event on their first pages.

   Workshops on satellite ABC and the technology of satellite telecommunication were held before the conference and were highly appreciated by the attendees. In addition, at the end of the conference about 30 representatives of the attendees were invited to visit Information Center of State Administration of Meteorology, the ground station of Sino Satellite Communications, China Eastern Satellite Network Corp. These activities greatly satisfied the desire for the field visits of those representatives and enrich the contents of the conference.
