China Satellite 2000 drew 450 delegates from China and around the world, making it undoubtedly the largest satellite industry event in China.

    The three days of conference sessions were well received, covering applications from broadband, IP broadcasting and communication, to VSAT, mobile satellite communications, to GPS and remote sensing. General sessions on WTO and its impact on China satellite industry, operator round table and new opportunities for satellite technology in western China development plan were highly regarded by conference delegates.

    23 companies exhibited their products and services during the conference sessions. Live demonstrations by Inmarsat, Global Telemann Systems, Inc., Gilat, China Orient Satellite Communications Co., Shenzhen Kingsky Co.Ltd and Shenzhen Tongzhou Electronics Co.Ltd attracted attention from many satellite users and industry professionals.

   Site visits to well known telecommunication and satellite companies received overwhelming response. In addition, internal meeting between government officials, provincial operators and end users, and gathering of Chinese and foreign satellite experts were organised for the first time.

    Around the China Satellite 2000, China Orient Satellite Communications hosted its annual customer meeting, and Americom Asia Pacific celebrated the launch of its GE-1A satellite which would provide services to China users in near future. The founding of China Satellite Forum were also announced during the first day session.

    At the close of the conference, conference Co-Chairman Mr. Chen Ruming announced that Mr. David Hartshorn, Secretery General of Global VSAT Forum were voted the best speaker by conference delegates.
